Jesus Centered Life

Currently in our Sunday morning worship services we are studying in a series titled “Old Testament to Salvation.” In this series we are discovering that the Bible may be split into two parts, the Old and New Testament, but it really is one big story.   I believe that it is very important to realize the Bible is one story, because so many Christians have a difficult time completely understanding the Old Testament.  If we fail to see the Bible as one story, we struggle to see how the stories of the Old Testament often relates to our lives today.

Not only is the Bible one big story but it also has one focus and that is the person of Jesus Christ.  The Bible is centered on Jesus.  The Old Testament contains over 700 texts that refer to Jesus or that Jesus quoted.  This allows us to get to know Jesus and when we get to know Jesus, we get to know God the Father as well.  This knowledge then leads us into a clearer understanding of God’s plan for our lives.

The idea of Jesus being the center of everything is something that we need to see in our lives as well.  In everything that we do in our lives from our relationships, our employment, our hobbies; Jesus should be at the center of it all.  When we live as Jesus as the center of our lives it is then that we find who God has designed us to be and what our true purpose is in life.  When we can say what the apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:2, “For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified,” then we can move from a self-centered life to a Jesus centered life.
