Summer Time: Vacation days and/or Spiritual Renewal
Summer is a great time to get away from the regular routine and do some great things with the family. Camping, fishing, hiking, swimming, vacations, the northland is filled with all sorts of great outdoor activities. The hours of extra sunlight seem to really motivate us to be on the go and get more done. Yet with all the influx of activities I am so aware of the problem of setting aside time for God. Summer with it changes of routine can really make it difficult.
I once heard a gentleman say. “We often feel we have so much to do that we can’t afford 15 minutes or more with God. But if we would spend that time with him to begin with perhaps those problems that pop up throughout the day would not come up. Or perhaps due to our time in the Word we may have greater wisdom to deal with them.”
It was Martin Luther who said, “I have so much to do today I have to get up an hour early so I can get in some extra prayer.” (Paraphrased)
This summer let us not forsake taking time to get into God’s Word daily. Don’t let the spontaneity of summer steal your devotion to God. In fact, summer is a great time to take a day away and spend time reading God’s Word and focusing on His will for your life. Find a place and get away with God.
May God bless as you focus on Him today.
