Breathe

img_0215One of my favorite new inspirational songs is called “Breathe” by Johnny Diaz. (If you click on the title, Breathe, you will be taken to YouTube and you can listen to it.) I think this song is especially appropriate for this season.

Ninety miles an hour going fast as I can
Trying to push a little harder trying to get the upper hand
So much to do in so little time, it’s a crazy life
It’s ready, set, go it’s another wild day
When the stress is on the rise in my heart I feel you say just
Breathe….

It is so easy to get caught up in the preparations for Christmas – decorating, shopping, baking, more shopping, wrapping, concerts, parties – that we forget to slow down and spend time with the One whose Son was born on Christmas. These things that keep us busy are not bad things. Don’t get me wrong. I love Christmas lights, music, finding just the right gifts (although I’m not too fond of wrapping the gifts I buy) and getting together with friends and family. But sometimes I’m so tired by Christmas Eve. This year I want to enjoy the days leading up to Christmas and, even more, I want to spend time with my Heavenly Father each day.

Breathe, just breathe
Come and rest at my feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to take it in, fill your lungs
The peace of God that overcomes
Just breathe (just breathe)
let your weary spirit rest
Lay down what’s good and find what’s best
Just breathe (just breathe)
Find what’s best this Christmas – the gifts of love, forgiveness, salvation, peace that only God can give. Spend time just breathing while you sit at His feet.
