At the Monday night Women’s Bible Study we are studying Ephesians 6: 10-19, and we are learning how important it is to wear our armor, and to pray….
Satan is a very real enemy, and he is studying each one of us, trying to see where we’re weak, when we are powerless, how we can be tempted… he’s looking for chinks in our armor. But God tells us in Ephesians just what armor we should be wearing every day – our “uniform” as a Christian, our protection from the enemy.
Last week we learned about wearing the belt of truth. Jesus, who is the Word (John 1:1), is also Truth (John 14:6). When we read God’s Word, we get to know his Son, Jesus. Jesus says (John 8:31-32)that if we abide in His Word, then we are His disciples… and we will know the Truth, and the Truth will make us free. So we put on the belt of truth. We wrap it around ourselves as we read His Word. Satan is the father of lies. Jesus is the Truth. Wouldn’t you rather have truth than lies? Lies hurt. They multiply. They separate us from others. They destroy relationships. But the truth sets us free! There’s no fear in truth – no worry about being caught or found out. Freedom to love. Freedom to live. Gird yourself with the truth!
This week we are learning about the second part of armor that God wants us to wear to protect ourselves – the breastplate of righteousness. The Truth, God’s Word, teaches us how to live. Righteousness is taking that truth and making it a way of life, putting it in our hearts, right living in a relationship with our heavenly Father. And the best news is that we don’t have to carry that breastplate by ourselves – Jesus, the Truth, has sent us a helper – the Holy Spirit – to teach us in our heart how to live. I’m excited to learn more about this breastplate that covers and protects my heart. Is your heart protected?
Do you want to know more? Are you tired of lies, deceit, fear, failure? Do you want help? Grab a Bible and turn to the book of John. Read about Jesus – the way, the truth and the life. Come to our Bible Study next Monday night at 6:00 pm. Or contact me here and we can talk.
